Modification Name: Categories Heirarchy (Sub-Forums)

Description: Allows the creation of sub-forums within existing forums with their own attandant topic indices.

Status/Availability: This modification would entail a unique and massive reconfiguration as well as an edit of all forum templates.

Additional Notes: There is currently a beta version of a categories heirarchy modification in circulation, but it is still rife with bugs and security issues. Further information can be seen here. A one-of demo site with this modification can be seen here.

Modification Name: Attachments

Description: Allows files to be attached to posts.

Status/Availability: There is a downloadable version of this modification, which can be reviewed here.

Additional Notes: Unresolved issues remain surrounding the size and number of attached files, which could put an unforseeable and uncalculatable strain on the server.

IMPLEMENTED: Sat Mar 31, 2007: Partnering with fast-files.com to provide a file upload feature for forums that is integrated into the posting/reply form.

Modification Name: Longer Topic Titles

Description: Allows an increased number of characters to be entered in topic titles.

Status/Availability: There is a downloadable version of this modification, which can be reviewed here.

Additional Notes: The aforementioned modification allows a maximum limit of 250 characters. Also, there is currently no installer program for this modification.

Modification Name: Topic Rating System

Description: Allows users to 'rate' individual topics using a point system. Also creates user 'rates' based on the average 'rate' their topics receive.

Status/Availability: There is a downloadable version of this modification, which can be reviewed here. However, a modification re-write would almost certainly be necessary. (See below.)

Additional Notes: The downloadable modification has been abandoned by the original designer, apparently due to recurrent programming-based errors. It is uncertain if the modification was ever successfully launched as an official phpBB hack.

Modification Name: Non-Custom Module Background

Description: Allows an uploaded image to appear as the background of all non-custom modules on the portal.

Status/Availability: There is no known modification available to achieve this.

Additional Notes: Such functionality might also be attainable through the creation/installation of a Custom Style.

Modification Name: RSS Content Syndicator

Description: Allows other sites with RSS Feed capabilities (such as Yahoo!) to link to this forum, displaying truncated forms of its posts on their site.

Status/Availability: There is a downloadable version of this modification, which can be reviewed here.

Additional Notes: It would be preferable if the RSS feed was taken from the Portal Page only, as not all posts are feed-worthy. Also, it would be nice if we could display RSS feeds of our choice in a RSS Module on the portal as well.

Description: Allows users to file a (op: written) report with forum moderators informing them of improper conduct exhibited in a post.

Additional Notes: The downloadable modification does not operate according to user-classes, but is global to all members of the forum.

Modification Name: Referral System

Description: Allows users to receive a referral ranking based on the number of times they have successfully scouted for new guests/members via a specific coded link.

Status/Availability: There are several similar modifications currently in development. They can be viewed here and here. However, a new modification would have to be written for use at forumwise.

Additional Notes: It is uncertain whether either of the downloadable hacks were ever released as official phpBB modifications. The second hack (link 2 above) is BETA only and is rife with bugs.

Description: Allows administrators to 'freeze' a particular forum's post-count increase function.

Description: Restricts regular users to only giving 'karma' points; points cannot be taken away.

Additional Notes: Administrators should maintain full control over the 'karma' system.

Modification Name: User-Level Icon in 'Who's Online'

Description: Displays a user-level (Administrator, Moderator, Member, Guest) icon in the 'Who's Online' section.

Status/Availability: There is a downloadable version of this modification which can be reviewed here.

Additional Notes: It has been requested that an Administrator be able to determine which images are uploaded for each user-level. This represents more than a few technical hurdles, considering that the above linked modification was designed to require icons to be copied into the .tpl files of each style. See here for more.

Modification Name: Media BBCode Tags

Description: Allows users to embed media (video and music) files in posts via a Windos Media Player plug-in using a simple [media] tag.

Status/Availablity: There is a (beta) version of this modification currently under development which can be reviewed here.

Additional Notes: This modification will need some major work. Also, it has been suggested that only Administrators (and perhaps Moderators) have permission to use the media tag. Not sure how that's going to work...
